Why I am Running for Mayor
It's Time for New Leadership for Edina
Many friends and neighbors in Edina have expressed concerns about the direction of our city. What I hear most often is that the pace, height, and density of development are affecting our quality of life and intensifying these concerns. I am often asked, “How did density become a matter of public policy?"
This trend towards densification is often reflected in building proposals that exceed current zoning ordinances, requests for variances or rezoning, and requests for public financial support of private development. In many circumstances, there is no supporting data for these decisions. This is not smart development.
Considering this trend in Edina, I share the concerns of many residents and wonder where our city will be in ten years.
Careful planning can ensure sensible development without sacrificing Edina’s charm and neighborhood spirit. Considering community perspectives and our existing infrastructure must guide our decision-making.
I am running for mayor of Edina because our city is at an important crossroads. We need a new approach. I look forward to the challenge of making our town a better place to live and to your support and input in creating a new way of governance.
